Learn with Tomas

With a solid background in Music Theory and Performances, Tomas is the ideal teacher for you or your kids to discover that beautiful instrument, get better, or try different music styles.

Tomas has played with youth orchestras since the age of 11. He has completed Grades with RIAM, ABRSM, and DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.

He has more recently performed as first violin with the DIT Symphonic Orchestra, and toured in Denmark, Italy, Norway and around Ireland (National Concert Hall, John Field Room, Christchurch, Galway Cathedrals…). He is also use to play with bands and small ensembles.

Tomas has a strong experience teaching and mentoring young violinists as well as working in sectional rehearsals with groups of violinists.

I came across Phil’s website during one internet browsing session, the kind where you muse on an idea that’s come into... your head (in this case being able to play an instrument) and go and research it. I looked at many things like ukulele Tuesday and guitar but there’s something about learning how to play the piano that has always struck a chord with me (no pun intended!). I had learnt piano to Grade 3 level but gave up when I was 13 as I never took to the classical music way of how it was taught. Fast forward over 20 years later and I was on Phil’s website where it spoke about learning piano in a modern, fun and easy way - I thought why not try just one class.From the first class I was hooked. Phil threw out what I knew about piano and introduced a chord based way of playing that’s a simple and easy way to learn any song. Then just when you think you’re getting good, Phil adds more complexity and depth to it which keeps you constantly improving your technique and growing your ability. With Phil, he lets you bring any song you want to learn to the lesson and he’ll break it down for you, so you get to learn the music you want to learn. His laid back style keeps things light and fun. But at the same time, he will keep you accountable something that apps like Yousician can’t do to the same extent, and if there’s an area he sees you’re struggling with he’ll identify those and give you simple exercises that will help you improve.I heartily recommend Phil to anyone out there who’s watching life pass by but have always wanted to learn how to play an instrument. You’re never too and with Phil’s studio being in the middle of town, if you work in the city centre, it’s easy to fit sessions in around work. I can say from recent experience, being able to play songs for my newborn son who seems to love music, (something I simply wouldn’t have been able to do before), it’s something you wont regret. I took piano lessons with Phil (at Simply Music) for just under 2 years. Phil was recommended to me by a friend and... straight upon the first lesson I instantly knew why: Phil is a very passionate and highly talented musician, his teaching style is very inspirational and he shares his excitement for music with his pupils. He taught me the theory, not just how to read it off of a sheet, but how to truly understand the structure and logic behind it. He then encourages his pupils to chose the music they want to play (Phil can simply play anything if he listens to it once), teaches them to play by ear themselves and how to improvise too. I especially enjoyed Phil accompanying my piano playing with the guitar and singing, every lesson ended on a high with me singing along to the music still afterwards on the way home. Needless to say I can thoroughly recommend Phil's piano lessons and will miss this invigorating time in my week whilst I am abroad.read more
